Prayer
Five Minutes in Prayer
This is to help you use five minutes in prayer. You may like to say all the prayers or you may prefer to concentrate on just one. We hope that you find the words here helpful.
Be quite still for a few moments and bring into your mind the fact that you are with the God who created the whole world; the beauty of sunshine and children; the power of the wind; and the peace of this moment.
Praise God
You are worthy of all praise, eternal Father;
You created the universe in all its variety
And you made us in your own image.
You are worthy of all praise, Lord Jesus Christ;
You visited the earth to reveal the Father’s love and you restored our hope by your living and dying.
You are worthy of all praise, Holy Spirit of God;
You gather together the people of God and give them power from on high.
Give to God
Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty,
My memory, my understanding and my entire will,
All that I have and call my own.
You have given it all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.
Everything is yours, to do with what you will.
Give me only your love and grace.
That is enough for me.
Thank God
I thank you for all your goodness and loving kindness to me.
Especially I want to thank you for... and for...
Grant that I may show my love for you not only with my lips but in my life.
Saying sorry to God
Lord, help me to face the truth about myself.
Help me to hear my words as others hear them,
To see my face as others see me.
Let me be honest enough to recognise the things I have done wrong, especially...
Give me the grace I need to say ‘I was wrong, I am sorry’ And Lord forgive me.
If you are in trouble or worried
Lord I am distressed because...
Though I know so little, help me to go on believing in your love.
And when the path of reason is darkened
Let the light of faith shine in my heart.
If you are praying for someone else
To your loving care, O Lord,
I commend all those who are dear to me, especially...
Be in every heart, every troubled home, beside every bed of pain,
Giving to all the blessing of your peace.
End your time of prayer with the Lords Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Always remember
Be at peace because God loves you.
Be joyful because Jesus saved you.
Be strong because the Holy Spirit is within you.
